Alexandra Treadaway-Hoare was born in Manila, Philippines to Canadian parents and grew up living in multiple countries including Indonesia, Singapore, Hong-Kong, Morocco, Germany, England and Scotland. This international upbringing fostered her appreciation for cultural diversity and the passage of time, themes that strongly influence her artwork. Early inspiration came from her father’s hobby as a lepidopterist, which nurtured her sensitivity to color and detail.

Although Alexandra initially undertook university and a corporate career path, her passion for art remained. About 20 years ago, she committed to formal study through workshops and mentorship’s, notably with Angus McEwan, who helped her develop a confident and thoughtful approach to composition.

Alexandra’s creative process is careful and layered. She begins with reference images and thumbnail sketches, then works on detailed drawings before applying multiple layers of paint over months. Her style combines technical precision with emotional depth and vibrant color, influenced by Gustavo Klimt, the Fauves and her mentor McEwan.

She has held seven solo exhibitions and earned awards in international competitions such as the Malaysia Art Competition and Atelier de Ci Barros in Portugal. Her work has been shown in Galleries both locally and internationally, and she is a member of various art societies including Baltimore Watercolor Society and the American Watercolor Society.

Outside the studio, Alexandra’s competitive nature is evident in her involvement with Sighthound Sports, where she has fielded nationally ranked whippets and an Afghan Hound, an experience that parallels her disciplined and observant approach to painting. Through her Art, she invites viewers to reflect on impermanence and honor the quiet dignity found in the passage of time.
