John Fehringer has lived in the DC area on and off since 1985. He served 10 years in the US Navy Nuclear Submarine Service, followed by 25 years working in nuclear safety and licensing for Idaho National Laboratory (INL) in Bethesda, Germantown, and Rockville.

He has always been interested in art and became totally inspired after viewing “Picasso-The Early Years” at the National Gallery of Art in 1997. His next inspiration came from the Van Gogh exhibit in 1998. He took his first art lessons from a National Gallery of Art Copyist in late 1998, and he has been painting ever since. He joined the Montgomery Art Association a few years ago and has been showing his art at various local shows since then.

John uses mostly acrylics while painting a variety of subjects from flowers, to birds, to landscapes. He likes abstract realism.
John paints under his mother’s maiden name, Hatch.
Artists Statement: Painting is an expression of my inner self and presents many different perspectives of similar subjects. I generally visualize a subject, sketch on paper, then sketch on canvas. Once I start painting, colors, textures and shapes further evolve, resulting in a completed work. If my art brings a smile to the viewers face, invokes thoughts of pleasant things and times, then my goal as an artist is accomplished.
