Gallery 209 will be showing paintings by featured artist Ann Schaefer along with work by 20 other gallery artists. "Made in the Shade--a year of plein air paintings" will open on May 2, and run through May 29.
Artists' Reception will be on First Friday, May 4, from 6 to 9 pm. Ann's works will illustrate her process of working outdoors, in urban and rural areas of Maryland, nearby states, and on travels to more distant places, such as Key West, Curacao, and Bermuda. She paints on her own, or with other artists, often in organized paint out events.
Her work has a depth of color and excitement that comes from quick brushstrokes, catching light and shadow as they move through the landscape. A Fine Arts graduate of George Washington University, Ann has continued to learn from other artists, informally and in workshops. Her work has been recognized by many awards in juried exhibits and plein air events.
She will be in the gallery most Saturdays during May, and will be doing an artist's talk and tour of the exhibit on May 19 at 2:00 p.m.
